Parents asked to watch over their children on holiday

By Agnes Orang’o

Parents have been challenged to take charge of their children who are at home for the holiday in a bid to prevent them from indulging in destructive behaviour.

Speaking at Nguluni, Matungulu West MCA aspirant Raphael Nzau observed that there is need for parents to know the whereabouts of their children.

He observed that many parents were going to political meetings every day not knowing what was happening with their children back at home.

The politician noted that some children were taking advantage of this to indulge in social vices.

“The responsibility of parenting should be taken seriously, more so when their children are home during holidays. Some parents have abdicated the responsibility to teachers only not knowing they have a role to play,” he said.

“Don’t let the campaign period stop you from playing your part. I have seen parents spending a whole day in campaigns unaware of where their children were or what they were doing, that is shameful,” he added.

Nzau also urged the parents not to allow the children to go to political gatherings because such gatherings may turn ugly and the children could get harmed.

“There are so many children in political meetings; parents stop taking your children to these meetings and if they are going without you knowing, please find a way to stop it,” he said.
