Parents have been advised to closely monitor their daughters’ activities during the extended holiday.
A Community Health Volunteer in Kaloleni, Kilifi County, Zubeda Kilonzo expressed dismay over the apparent lapse in parental responsibility, emphasizing the need for vigilance
She highlighted the prevalent issue of parents neglecting to supervise their daughters, leading to attendance at night Disco Matanga events.
She underscored the adverse effects of this trend, citing a rise in early marriages and pregnancies among schoolgirls in the county.
The volunteer also lamented the disturbingly high dropout rate among schoolgirls in the region, attributing it directly to early pregnancies and marriages.
Zubeda called for a collaborative effort from all education stakeholders in the county to address the issue.
Specifically, she urged the concerted return of girls who were married off or became mothers back to school, emphasizing the importance of ensuring their continued education.
