More than 8,000 needy students in Trans Nzoia County are set to benefit from bursaries after the county government finalised preparations for the release of cheques under the Elimu Bursary Fund.
The Department of Education and Vocational Training announced that the disbursement exercise will begin on Tuesday, targeting students from poor backgrounds, with a special focus on those in day schools.
County Executive Committee (CEC) Member for Education and Vocational Training, Janerose Nasimiyu Mutama, stated that six teams have been deployed to oversee the distribution across all wards.

“All preparations are complete. We want to ensure that every eligible student receives the support they need to stay in school,” she said.
The initiative is in line with Governor George Natembeya’s pledge to promoting educational equity throughout the county. Mutama added that the bursary comes at a crucial time, with schools experiencing delays in receiving capitation funds from the national government.
Chief Officer for Education and Vocational Training, Kennedy Etiang, commended departmental staff for processing the cheques and assured beneficiaries of a transparent exercise.
“Preparing over 8,000 cheques is no small task. We have put mechanisms in place to ensure they reach the intended students,” Etiang said.
The disbursement will run on a ward schedule: Bidii and Sinyereri on Tuesday; Kiminini and Nabiswa on Wednesday; Motosiet, Makutano, and Kaiplamai on Thursday; and Endebess, Kapomboi, and Tuwan on Friday.
The Elimu Bursary Fund remains one of Trans Nzoia’s flagship education programs, aimed at cushioning learners from financial hardship and preventing school dropouts.
