More than 6,600 students from Teso North Constituency have received bursaries worth Ksh75 million through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), in a move aimed at enhancing access to education across the region.
The disbursement, announced on Monday, August 4, saw Ksh35 million allocated to 6,000 students enrolled in schools within the constituency, while Ksh15 million was awarded to 200 students studying in institutions outside the area.
Teso North Member of Parliament Dr. Oku Kaunya said the bursaries target learners from all levels, including those pursuing specialized courses such as medicine, law, engineering, and aviation.
“We are supporting a generation of professionals – future doctors, lawyers, engineers, and pilots – and this bursary initiative is key to ensuring no student is left behind due to lack of fees,” said Dr. Kaunya.
In addition to the bursaries already issued, the MP revealed that Ksh30 million earmarked for university students is yet to be disbursed. Each university student is expected to receive Ksh5,000 once the funds are released.
