The Meru County government in conjunction with the Kenya Literature Bureau (KLB) has donated a consignment of text books worth over Ksh 10 million to Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) learners in Meru County.
Speaking during the launch of the books, Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza said the over 26,000 text books are meant to benefit over 60,000 learners who are PP1 and PP2 pupils in 776 ECDE centres across the county.
She affirmed that the books are approved by the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD).
“This is a great move because it is cost-effective and will greatly improve access to educational materials. It is a very important milestone in my administration’s efforts towards the provision of quality education to all our children.
The over 26,000 books worth over Ksh 10 million will benefit the over 60,000 learners who are PP1 and PP2 pupils in 776 ECDE centres across the county,” said the governor.
She said the initiative will now enable two or three pupils to share one book unlike in the previous years where more than seven pupils have been sharing a single book.
She said in the true spirit of devolution, she will ensure that all the books are delivered to the beneficiary schools from a central point in a concerted effort to promote accountability.
“I’m grateful for this partnership with Kenya Literature Bureau (KLB). I’m happy that our teachers will also benefit from training courtesy of this collaboration,” said Ms Mwangaza.
