Over 50 boda boda riders receive legal training from Kaimosi University outreach drive

More than 50 boda boda operators in Kaimosi received legal training on Thursday to bolster legal literacy among informal transport workers.

The session, hosted at Kaimosi University, was conducted as part of the institution’s community outreach programme.

State Attorney Stanford Nyauma led the workshop, focusing on riders’ legal rights, traffic regulations, and contract awareness.

“This training provides the riders with essential tools to protect themselves legally while enhancing professionalism in the sector,” said Nyauma, addressing participants during the event.

The initiative comes amid growing concerns over the vulnerability of boda boda operators to legal challenges stemming from limited knowledge of the law. With motorbike taxis forming the backbone of Kenya’s public transport system, the training was welcomed as both timely and necessary.

Riders in attendance described the session as eye-opening, citing improved confidence in handling legal issues, road safety compliance, and contract negotiations.

University officials said the program marks the beginning of broader efforts to extend legal and civic education to underserved community segments.

The boda boda sector, which supports thousands of livelihoods nationwide, has often operated in legal grey areas.
