Over 317 cases of pregnant candidates sitting for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations have being registered in the South Rift region.

According to Bomet County Director of Education Apollo Apuko, 292 cases were from Bomet, Baringo, Narok and Naivasha counties.

Bomet leads with 146 cases followed by Baringo with 26 cases, Narok with120 and Naivasha with 25 pregnant candidates.

Apuko however assured the affected candidates that they will sit for their exams no matter their situation.

“We are taking care of them and in case any one of them will deliver we will ensure that they sit their exams in the hospital,” he added.

Apuko noted that Bomet has a total of 29,391 KCPE candidates across 852 centres and 28,634 KPSEA candidates in 911 centers.

County Commissioner, Isaac Masinde said the mothers-to-be will get the assistance needed when necessary, urging them to sit for the exams despite their condition.

“We want all the candidates to be treated equally so that they can sit for the national exams comfortably. No child should feel disadvantaged because of their condition,” he said.
