The national government plans to enroll 27,100 youth in Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions as part of efforts to advance the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda in Kericho.
County Commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo said 100 youth will be selected from each of the county’s 271 sub-locations and fully sponsored by the government to undertake various technical and skill-based courses.
Speaking at Kericho Teachers Training College after chairing a County Security Meeting, Kitiyo said the initiative aims to equip the youth with hands-on skills to enable self-employment, reduce dependency, and curb social vices.
“This way, we’ll have skilled youth and fewer challenges in the villages,” said Kitiyo.
The programme also integrates labour-intensive public works to create short-term employment, including road maintenance, tree planting, solid waste management, and infrastructure rehabilitation.
