Hundreds of students and teachers from schools within Baringo Central gathered to plant trees to commemorate World Teachers Day.
The exercise presided over by Agriculture Chief Officer Dr. Milka Toromo, Sub County Director of Education, Baringo Central Thomas Mukabi and Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) officials saw five schools participate in planting of over 2000 trees.
Speaking during the exercise at AIC Visa Oshwal, Kapkut Primary, Kaptimbor Day Secondary, Kapropita Primary and Kiptilit Primary schools, Dr Toromo appreciated role played by teachers in shaping the future of learners and conserving the environment.
Dr. Toromo emphasized that teachers immense contributions to the society beyond classroom warrants their recognition in all schools to honor their vital role.
She noted that teachers remain key pillars in building character of learners mentally thus recognizing them through such activities truly aligns with this year’s theme ‘’ The transformation of education begins with teachers ‘’
Dr. Toromo who also led in rewarding of teachers and pupils, also donated wheel chair to a pupil in Kapropita and bought uniforms to some needy pupils in schools .

Sub County Director of Education Thomas Mukabi hailed the move by the county official and challenged other leaders to join the worthy course.
The Director said the annual event resonates with government master plan to realize 15 billion trees are planted by 2030 to increase tree cover, hence challenging teachers and pupils to take up the role seriously.
Mukabi urged the pupils to embrace tree planting at schools and their homes to benefit from importance associated with trees.
‘’ As a trained teacher, I must appreciate the sacrifice by my fellow colleagues in shaping the future of learners. I urge you pupils to respect your teachers and appreciate them in any way during this special day,’’ said the Sub County Director of Education.
Elsewhere in Baringo North Kenya School of Government, Baringo Dr. John Bii led the exercise at Moi Boys High school Kabartonjo grounds with education officials.
The school Chief Principal Samuel Akufa hailed the milestone achievement marked by the school annually and stressed on the need to involve schools to heed call on climate action.
