A total of 2,144 delegates from 110 KNUT branches are set to converge at Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani Indoor Arena next week for the union’s 65th Annual Delegates Conference, a key battleground ahead of next year’s elections

In a Circular to all branch Executive Secretaries regarding the allocation of delegates for the 65th KNUT ADC signed by the union Secretary General Collins Oyuu dated December 08, 2025, the branch bosses have been instructed to convene Branch Executive Committee (BEC) Meeting to appoint delegates that will attend the ADC and submit it by close of business today, December 11, 2025.

“Make proper arrangements for your delegates to be transported to and from Nairobi for the 65th Annual Delegates Conference. Branches are allowed to exercise their discretion in nominating delegates provided they do not exceed their allocation,” instructed Oyuu in the Circular.

According to the allocation, Central region will have 206 delegates, Coast 152 delegates, Nyanza 359 delegates, Rift Valley 643 delegates, Eastern 434 delegates, Nairobi 37 delegates, Western 279 delegates, and North Eastern 34 delegates.

The ADC comes as the union is gearing up for next year’s elections, with the union already setting the dates for branch elections which will begin on January 5, 2026, and end on March 31, 2026.

A full schedule of election indicating the date and venue for election for each branch and national election for the union is expected to be released either before, during, or few days after this year’s ADC.

Oyuu with a good number of top leaders in the union are expected to defend their seats in the coming national election.

The move recently received a major boost whereby the current vote rich Rift Valley region endorsed Oyuu and the entire National Steering Committee for another term, amid rumours that the former Secretary General Wilson Sossion may stage a comeback.

Speaking after the KNUT Rift Valley Region’s Annual General Meeting held last month, the Regional Council Secretary Martin Sembelo, who also serves as the Executive Secretary for KNUT West Pokot Branch, said the region has full confidence in the current leadership, praising Oyuu for stabilizing the union, strengthening its relationship with the Ministry of Education and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), and championing teachers’ rights during a period marked by major policy reforms.
