Oriwo Boys to host annual open sports tournament in January 2026

Oriwo Boys’ High School in Homa Bay County has announced plans to host its Annual Oriwo Open Sports Tournament early next year, bringing together students, clubs, and institutions from across the region for a major sporting showdown.

According to a circular issued by Mathews Mutula, the school’s Head of Games and Sports, the tournament will take place on January 31 and February 1, 2026, starting at 8:00 a.m. each day at the school’s sports grounds.

The two-day event will feature a wide range of disciplines, including soccer, volleyball, handball, hockey, basketball, rugby (15’s for boys and 7’s for girls), netball, and racquet games. Participation is open to Senior Schools, Junior Secondary Schools (JSS), TVET institutions, and community sports clubs.

Mutula said the annual tournament is part of the school’s ongoing efforts to promote talent development, discipline, and teamwork among young athletes. He added that trophies and certificates will be awarded to the best-performing teams in each category, while visiting teams will be offered accommodation upon prior arrangement.

Participation fees have been set at Kshs. 2,000 per team per discipline for senior schools, clubs, and TVETs, and Kshs. 1,500 for JSS teams. Participants in racquet games will contribute Kshs. 400 each, and all teams are expected to carry a playable ball.

Oriwo Boys’ High School, known for its strong sporting tradition, has consistently produced talented players who have excelled in county and national competitions. The tournament, a highlight of Homa Bay’s sports calendar, is expected to draw hundreds of participants and fans, turning Kandiege into a hub of sporting excitement.

The school management has extended a warm invitation to all schools and sports enthusiasts, reaffirming its commitment to nurturing holistic learners through competitive and disciplined sportsmanship.
