Organizations running e-commerce platforms have been urged to hire skilled professionals to enhance digital trust.

Speaking at the Kenya chapter of Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) Annual Conference in Mombasa, ISACA President Mercy Omollo highlighted the risks posed by unskilled workers in IT, which can expose the public to hackers and cyber swindlers.

She also stressed on the need to utilize ethical hackers to help sniff and stop cyber attackers before they happen.

Omollo emphasized the role of trained experts in ensuring secure platforms.

“Whatever you put in your platform has to go on a secure platform, which has processes of various technologies in place that keep off hackers from infiltrating the system but also putting in place checks and balances to ensure that vendors are providing goods and services for what they mean or they are providing exactly what they need to provide,” she said.

While describing digital trust as crucial for e-commerce, Omollo said consumers shopping online have the right to be protected from rogue hackers.

Organizations need to build seamless confidence in the system from end to end, the presidents added, emphasizing that trust can only be achieved with skilled professionals.

Omollo further noted that similar trust should be entrenched in the government’s e-Citizen platform to ensure the security of both citizen and government data.

As part of ISACA’s role, the association provides expertise and certification on emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence and Quantum computing.

They also train ethical hackers who can anticipate attacks and create solutions.
