The Open University of Kenya recently launched at the Konza Technopolis will open up more opportunities for Kenyans to access higher education unlike in the past.
Mwala Member of Parliament (MP) Eng. Vincent Musyoka ‘Kawaya’ on Saturday asked the youth to ready themselves to take advantage of opportunities offered by the university once it begins admissions soon.
Speaking at Kyumbi Junction in Mavoko constituency where he led high-ranking government officials including 15 parastatal heads to launch the construction of the Kyumbi Dam, Musyoka said that there were plans to extend the Nairobi-Kyumbi dual carriage up to Emali in order to accommodate the envisaged increase in traffic.
Musyoka said the Open University which will be headquartered in Konza Technocity will ensure no Kenyan misses university education due to lack of space as the programmes will be administered virtually.
“You will only need a computer to attend classes online and the degree certificates offered by the Open University of Kenya will be recognized internationally,” he said.

The MP also revealed that the Higher Education Loans Board had doubled the allocation of loans and bursaries to students from the previous Sh15 million to Sh30 million annually.
He led the government officials in planting trees and issued two Hass Avocado seedlings to every resident in attendance in efforts to advance the government’s agenda of planting 15 billion trees to increase tree cover and combat climate change.
The 45,000m3 Kyumbi Dam is envisaged to serve 3,000 households and will supply water to residents to enable vegetable farming for supply to the Konza Technocity.
The officials in attendance included; Devolution PS Teresiah Mbaika, Chairman of the National Irrigation Authority Eng. Gilbert Maluki, Fred Muteti (Chair, Special Economic Zones), David Wamasi (Utalii College), James Mureu (Micro and Small Enterprise Authority) Ukur Sheikh Mohammed (Capital Markets Authority), Irungu Nyakera (KEMSA) and Mr Rashid Echesa.
