Open Christian University honours 21 leaders with Doctorate awards

Open Christian University – USA in affiliation with Angaza Bible and Training Institute has honored 21 honorees nationally and internationally with Doctorate awards for outstanding performance in community development, conflict resolution, leadership management and innovation.

Angaza Institute Chancellor Bishop Dr. Kennedy Anaswa Musee said that those awarded were recognized for changing the lives of people by giving back to the community.

Dr. Lister Nyamasege, Academic National Dean of Students at ABTI, said that the awardees were identified, nominated and vetted vigorously.

Speaking during the awards ceremony in Nairobi, the Dean said that the awardees were nominated and vetted before they were selected to receive the awards.

Kereri Girls Principal Dr. Tabitha Mogonchi and Magenge High School Principal Dr. Stella Mariera received the Honorary Doctorate award for outstanding performance in Leadership and Management.

Dr. Mogonchi was elated after being awarded for ensuring students from vulnerable families have access to education.

Dr. Stella was honored with the same award for sponsoring the education of needy students through a sponsorship programme that has seen 50 needy bright students access secondary education.

She said that the initiative has seen the growth of the school from 40 to 1,500 students, and revealed that the award will see her start a foundation to carry out more projects to support the community.

Style-Up Driving School Director Dr. Eunice Imwendwa was awarded in Leadership Ministry and Community Development, for supporting vulnerable persons in Kajiado and also leading road safety campaigns that have led to the reduction of road accidents.

HSC awardee, Author and Peace Ambassador, Dr. Dominic Obadiah was also awarded in the Humanitarian Diplomacy and Philanthropy category for his role in engaging international humanitarian organizations to assist vulnerable people and educating children from vulnerable backgrounds through sponsorships.

Decorated Attorney, Author and Educationist Teresa Lawrence from the USA was also awarded for her innovative programmes that have empowered communities. She was awarded in the Leadership, Community Development, Justice and Advocacy Specialization category.

Former Kisii County Senior Officer and Banker Dr. Edna Kagwana was also honoured on leadership and governance for her mentorship initiatives in schools.

Magarini Computer and Tailoring School Director John Magara was awarded for community service and development for empowering vulnerable youth especially those who have dropped out of schools in Kilifi County.

Narok County First Lady Dr. Agnes Ntutu was recognized for her outstanding leadership and community development.

Others were Narok politician Dr. Amos Parmuat Kipeen, Dr. Geoffrey Okindo, Dr. Magdaline Mwebi, Dr. Isaack Mongare, Dr. John Kingoina, Dr. Doris Onsomu, Dr. Rose Omango, Dr. James Gitagwa, Dr. Angela Omae, Dr. Vincent Sagwe, Dr. Aruna Varsani, Dr. Wilfrida Nseka, Dr. Julia Chege and Dr.  Joakim Mulama Oundo.
