Kisii County Director of Education has revealed that one Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidate from Amasege Secondary School has died.

“It is unfortunate that we lost one of our candidates,” Pius Ngoma said but declined to divulge on details concerning the death.

Speaking to Education News in his office, Mr. Ngoma also noted that two candidates gave birth and will continue their exams from their respective maternity wards.

Another incident occurred in Gucha sub county where police officers escorting examination papers were injured in a road accident on Friday morning.

“Some of our police officers were injured in a road accident as they transporting examination materials but the examinations are safe,” the Director said.

The police officers were taken to a hospital within the county where they are recuperating.

Kisii County Commissioner Hallan Macharia assured the families of the injured officers that they were responding well to treatment.

“There is no cause for alarm because the officers are recovering and will be discharged at any time and continue with their duties,” he said.

Despite the incidents, Mr. Ngoma expressed hope that the examination exercise will continue and end well.

“There have been no recorded cases of cheating so far,” he added.
