Olando Primary scoops coveted NACADA trophy as music festival continues

Various junior primary schools continued battling for top honors in a number of classes as the 94th edition of the Kenya music festival gained momentum in Kisumu.

Among the learning institutions which shone include Nairobi Primary school from Nairobi, Mwingi Primary from Eastern, Olando and Rabuor Primary schools from Nyanza region and Kenya Navy Primary school from the Coast.

Olando from Homa Bay County emerged top in the Own Choice category after collecting 87 marks.

The Choir master Mr. Elijah Suna Oketch said they led all the way from Mbita sub-county to the national level where they won the coveted NACADA trophy.

The elated teacher said they won the same in 2019 during the last Festival in Kabarak.

Elsewhere, Mwingi Primary emerged winner in the class 238 category with 88 marks while Nairobi Primary scooped a whopping 90 marks in the class 851 HH.

From the Coast, Kenya Navy emerged best in the Own Composition category.

A former adjudicator, Professor Charles Nyakiti pointed out that standards were fair given that both teachers and pupils had very little time to prepare.

Prof. Nyakiti advised students to take part in such activities in order to get exposed and nurture their talents.

Schools have already pitched tents in the lakeside city and are rehearsing ahead of the presentations.

Among the major themes captured by different plays at the event are climate change, economy, and leadership.
