Nyeri town National Government – Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) has issued out special bursary cheques worth Shs 0.84 million to the best performers in each of the 63 public primary and secondary schools.

Nyeri town Member of Parliament (MP) Ngunjiri Wambugu said the initiative was started so as to motivate pupils and students to work hard and to perform well academically.

Speaking while issuing out 82 cheques, Wambugu revealed that the committee agreed with all the 63 public schools in the constituency that every top student in the schools will receive Shs 10,000 irrespective of the marks they score.

‘The student’s score doesn’t matter as long as s/he was the school’s best candidate in KCPE or KCSE,’ he said.

He added that the cheques are sent to the institutions the students should join and that the aim of the NG-CDF is to ensure that students do not fail to report to school due to lack of school fees.

Mary Wanjiku, a parent, expressed her gratitude saying the money will greatly help in ensuring her child stays in school during the second term.

Teresa Njeri and Muchemi Kiriba thanked the MP and the NG-CDF team for the initiative saying that the money will greatly help them to clear accumulating fee balances in schools.
