Nyeri to improve terms for ECDE teachers

By Asa Maina

Nyeri county government is looking for ways of improving employment terms and conditions of early childhood development education (ECDE) teachers who were employed two years ago.

Governor Mutahi Kahiga said the county is coming up with a program on how their salaries will be raised progressively for the next two years until they reach a certain level.

“This is because we are committed to ensuring that ECDE is well dealt with by professionals that are well remunerated,” he said.

The county chief said the teachers have however been given some hope compared to where they were some time back but added that their working conditions must be improved going forward.

He said their capacity to save will be improved so that they can join teachers’ saccos such as Newfortis and be able to save like their colleagues.

This, he said, will enable them borrow money from the Saccos and use it to better their lives.

The governor made the announcement during Newfortis Sacco’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at Nyamachaki Primary School grounds in Nyeri town recently.
