Nyeri MP issues bursary funds to over 6,000 students

About 6000 students from Nyeri town constituency have benefited from about Sh27 million bursaries from Nyeri NG-CDF kitty.

The area MP Ngunjiri Wambugu said the money will be distributed to university, college, day and boarding high school students.

The legislator said it has been a very delicate process due to the complications of Covid-19 pandemic.

The bursaries were applied last year when schools were closed after the confirmation of the disease in the country.

“We went through the vetting process and getting the document back to us was a problem because of crowd management,” he said.

Though the names’ lists were pasted at the NG-CDF notice board, Wambugu said they had to send text messages to beneficiaries so that they do not travel to the offices.

Cheques were being sent directly to the school using EMS adding that those for Form Fours and final year students in universities and colleges had already been dispatched.

“All the others are going to be distributed in the course of the next two weeks but in the second week of May when schools are reopening, all the cheques will be in schools,” he said.

He said later the office will start preparing to give bursaries for this year saying they have 6000 to 8000 bursaries to give in the 2021 year.

People living with disability and the needy who may be late in returning their forms will also be considered.
