Nyeri Nominated Member of County Assembly (MCA) Agnes Wachira has urged the youth to embrace and safeguard their cultural heritage as a foundation for unity and national cohesion.

Speaking during the Mathenge Technical Training Institute’s Cultural Day, Wachira underscored the value of cultural diversity in promoting understanding and harmony among Kenyans. She said that learning about different communities fosters mutual respect and strengthens national bonds.

“We encourage our youth to continue learning about different cultures and backgrounds so that when we are working in various parts of the country, we can integrate well with our people and enhance our businesses,” said Wachira.

She noted that Kenya’s cultural richness is a powerful tool for unity, urging young people to take pride in their traditions while remaining open to learning from others. According to the MCA, cultural exchange not only broadens perspectives but also strengthens the social fabric that holds the nation together.
Wachira further emphasized the need to balance modernity and tradition, cautioning that while technology continues to reshape lives, it should not erode Kenya’s cultural roots.

“In an era where there is a lot of technology that is touching every aspect of life, we are glad that our youth can still learn what was happening way back before. That way, our culture will not be forgotten,” she remarked.

The Cultural Day at Mathenge Technical Training Institute was a vibrant showcase of Kenya’s ethnic diversity. Students and staff took to the stage in colorful traditional attire, performing songs, dances, and poetry that celebrated various communities across the country. The event provided a platform for cultural expression and learning, allowing participants to appreciate the beauty and depth of Kenya’s heritage.

Wachira commended the institution for nurturing cultural awareness among students, saying such events play a crucial role in promoting unity in diversity. She called on other learning institutions to organize similar programs to keep traditions alive and foster intercultural understanding.

Her remarks served as a timely reminder that even as the world moves rapidly into the digital age, cultural identity remains a vital link to Kenya’s past—and a bridge that connects generations in the shared vision of national harmony.
