The County Government of Nyeri has pledged support to the education sector in the county to ensure that the academic standards in the County are rated highly.
It has vowed to remain committed to supporting education both in line with improving of academic performance and ultimately the lives of needy students.
Speaking during the launch of a student mentorship program at Wambugu ATC, Nyeri governor Mutahi Kahiga, education is indeed the key to equalizing persons, reducing poverty, and creating a sustainable planet where socio-economic transformation can be achieved.
“I initiated a scholarship program in 2018 to aid students who hail from vulnerable backgrounds to secure their future.
A boy and a girl with a score of above 350 marks and above are selected from across the 30 wards. So far, 300 students have benefitted from this program.
Nonetheless, education for our children goes beyond classroom interaction,” he said
He added that he has hosted 265 students under the Governor’s Scholarship Program and the Diaspora Learning Academy for mentorship purposes at Wambugu ATC Farm.
“The four-day- mentorship program helps the students develop their confidence, self-esteem, and leadership skills they need to be successful in school and in life,” he said.
He urged the students to maintain discipline both at home and in school, focus on their studies, set goals, and work hard towards achieving their dreams.
“The students should make use of the opportunity accorded to them, assuring them that all necessary support will be accorded to them,” he added
“I wish to convey my special gratitude to the team in the Diaspora who has been contributing their resources generously in support of the needy students in the county,” he added.
For the 1st cohort, which completed Form IV last year, 45 out of the 60 students qualified to join tertiary institutions of education.
