Nyanza soccer teams named for the regional championships

A striker sprints past defenders in the just ended county competitions. Nyanza has lined up its teams for the regional contests.

Before the dust settles after bruising battles for glory in Term Two ball games at the lower cadres, Nyanza has already named the county soccer competitors at the regional competitions to be held in Cardinal Otunga Mosocho High School next month.

According to Kisii County Secondary Schools Sports Association Secretary Geoffrey Nyantika, Ambira High will represent Siaya as Kisumu Day and Kodero Bara will be the face of Kisumu and Migori counties respectively.

Homabay County, being the defending champions through Agoro Sare High School, takes two teams, the other being Tonga Secondary School.

The hosting Kisii County was also given an extra slot in the form of Ong’icha in addition to the new champions Sameta Boys.

The fate of a winner from Nyamira County had not been decided by the time of writing this story.

Nyamira County Secondary Schools Sports Secretary Hesborn Obwora said there was a standoff between St Paul’s Gekano and Nyaibasa over claims of fielding non-students.

He said the two schools are scheduled to have a replay to determine the winner and results will be relayed soon.
