Nyandarua University College has officially commenced operations with the admission of 350 students at the OJ Jororok Agricultural Training Centre, now serving as its satellite campus.
Governor Kiare Badilisha, who received the first cohort alongside other county leaders, described the launch as a landmark achievement for the region.
“The people of Nyandarua finally have a university to call their own, which has been long overdue. These courses will empower our youth and support local development,” the governor said.
The college will initially offer degree programmes in agriculture, business administration, and education.
Badilisha noted that priority in admissions will go to local students, ensuring they access higher education closer to home. He further assured parents and learners of quality standards through oversight from the University of Nairobi.

The institution has been established in collaboration with the University of Nairobi, which will provide academic mentorship.
Plans are also underway to construct the main campus at Kapten in Ol Kalou on a 50-acre parcel of land allocated from Salient Secondary School. The project, jointly funded by the national and county governments, is expected to break ground in the coming months.
The establishment of the college is expected to not only expand higher learning opportunities but also stimulate economic growth and skills development across Nyandarua County.
