The Nyandarua National Polytechnic took their fight for glory to the last gasp as it emerged third overall in the Mount Kenya West KATTI Sports competitions, recently, winning the soccer title in one of the thrillers of the tournament.

Being the hosts, anything short of the top spots would have been unthinkable; and so the competitors gave everything to finish behind seasoned teams that have been gracing the charts perennially.

Out of 17 colleges in the region, they beat their way up in a number of disciplines, the ladies soccer winning the championship to become the region’s representative at the nationals.

After cruising through the preliminaries rather comfortably, the ladies were faced with the gigantic task of overcoming an experienced Mathenge side that has been dominating over the years. With an uproarious home support behind them, they brought their mighty opponents to their knees in the final, winning even cheers from KATTI officials who thronged the match venue with great expectancy.

In other events, the ladies netball was position 3, which was also the position that the men soccer took.

Men’s basketball was also number three.

As the curtains fell on the colourful competitions, students were happy to be selected to represent the region in the nationals, much of their appreciation going to the administration for giving them the opportunity to explore their talent.

Coming from a county that is known for sports, the college is optimistic that their success will get them to a place where they can compete even on the global stage.

The Nyandarua National Polytechnic is the biggest TVET institution in Nyandarua County, having been promoted to a national polytechnic in the country’s plan to have one at least in every county.
