Nyamira form 4 leavers urged to join TVET colleges, shun bodaboda

Kitutu Masaba Member of Parliament (MP) Ombane Gisairo has asked form four leavers who became bodaboda riders to join local Technical and Vocational, Education and Training (TVET) institutes to further their education so as to position themselves better for their future.

He regretted the big number of school leavers who have joined the industry at the expense of education due to fast but short-lived income compared to vocational training that offers sustainable skills which can be utilized for a lifetime.

“Joining the bodaboda industry will be more beneficial when you have an academic certificate that can enable you to fit anywhere in the job market,” he said.

The MP who was speaking to the youth at Kebirigo town said that his NG-CDF office was ready to provide full scholarship to any youth who joined the local TVET institute of their choice to gain skills for self-sustenance.

Ombane asked them to also form groups to help them access government loans to start small businesses and support their education.

“You can be in small groups which operate as you continue with your education part time. The present digital era has simplified learning that you can do online at your own comfort,” he said.

Ombane said that his office will partner with the Nyamira County government to set up youth empowerment centres in every ward to enable them access internet services.

For those joining universities, the MP asked them to pursue courses that will enable them get employment easily after completing their sessions.

He asked parents to support their children by helping them make wise decisions.
