Nyamira Police arrests an elderly man for allegedly impregnating granddaughter

Nyamira murder

Nyamira County police have apprehended a 70-year-old man in Nyataro village, West Mugirango Constituency, on charges of impregnating his granddaughter.

The unsettling revelation came to light when the minor’s mother exposed the illicit relationship after a domestic dispute with the man.

“The father-in-law has been engaging in improper relations with his son’s wife and their daughter, following the expulsion of her husband from home,” Alice Gesare, a neighbor, disclosed.

Prompted by the community’s distress, authorities intervened, leading to the elderly man’s arrest for further investigation.

The 15-year-old, who grapples with a mental disability, underwent a medical examination at Nyamira Teaching and Referral Hospital, confirming her pregnancy.

Nyamira County Woman Representative Jerusah Momanyi decried the prevalence of child abuse by close relatives in the region, attributing it to moral lapses and legal unawareness.

Momanyi urged the government to enact and fortify laws advocating for the castration of individuals found guilty of rape and defilement to protect young girls from such heinous acts.

Nyamira County Police Commander Robert Ndambili affirmed the suspect’s arrest, noting that legal proceedings would follow the completion of police investigations.
