Nyamira County’s youth polys on verge of collapse

The County Assembly of Nyamira has unearthed a worrying rot in all the county’s Vocational training polytechnics.
In a report tabled at the Assembly recently, members noted that the 39 youth polytechnics lacked staff, students and important facilities.
The report exposed lack of instructors, mismanagement, low enrollment of learners and total failure by the County Government to fund the institutions were singled out as some of the challenges.
According to the report which was tabled by the Chairman of the sectoral Committee of Education and Technology, Samuel Nyanchama (Itibo Ward), all the polytechnics were downgraded and needed serious interventions in revamping their roles.
It has been realised that six out of the 39 polytechnics have no learners and were not operational while majority of them were operating with very few learners enrolled for the courses offered.
