Nyamira County Government is set to sponsor 250 bright students from poor homes to join secondary schools in a programme that will cater to all their needs from Form 1 to Form 4.

Through the Nyamira County Education Support Fund, the county released more than Ksh13 million for Term 1 school fees, in addition to purchasing essential items and providing pocket money.

Speaking at Uhuru Gardens, Governor Amos Nyaribo said that the Fund’s Selection Committee vetted more than 480 applicants in a competitive process that began at the Ward level.

“My selection team worked with Chiefs, their Assistants and Church leaders to enable genuinely affected children to get the financial assistance,” he said.

He then asked the NG-CDF offices from the area’s constituencies to work with his team to avoid duplication while issuing the funds.

Nyaribo said that his office will fund the learners from Form 1 until Form 2 while the NG-CDF will fund them for the rest of their secondary education.

“Since the start of this programme in 2021, we have supported more than 400 needy learners from poor homes in the county,” he said.

Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA) Nyamira branch Executive Secretary Job Oira lauded the programme and asked the Fund’s committee body to include deserving cases from private schools next year.
