Nyamira County announces feeding programme to boost ECDE learning

Nyamira County has announced a feeding programme to boost enrolment in Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) classes.

Yesterday, at Manga Stadium during Education Day, County Governor Amos Nyaribo said that enough funds have been set aside to finance the programme, which will start in May this year.

“Each learner will get one cup of fortified porridge daily to increase their concentration span because the porridge is sweet and enriched with nutrients,”  he said.

Highlighting that many parents do not provide enough nutritious food for their young children during their formative years, Governor Nyaribo said that his government decided to start the feeding programme to serve 30,000 ECDE children across the county, improving enrollment and retention in schools.

He also thanked both secondary and primary schools in the region for performing well in the 2024 KCSE examinations and promised to support future Education Days in the county to reward and motivate students and their teachers for achieving good results in national examinations.

The Education Day was attended by Kitutu Masaba MP Clive Gisairo, among other education officials and stakeholders, led by Nyamira County Director of Education Samuel Kega.

MP Clive Gisairo revealed that Nyamira County sent 8,500 students to university after attaining the minimum grade of C+ and above for direct entry during the 2024 KCSE examinations.

He urged those who did not meet the university entry requirements to join Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to acquire skills that would enable them to secure employment or pursue advanced education to improve their lives.

“I ask our parents to encourage their children to enrol in these technical colleges to acquire timeless skills for their future survival instead of indulging in the bodaboda business, which only lasts for a short time,” he said.

The MP called on all leaders from the region to work as a team and speak with one voice to the government to ensure equitable resource distribution.

He also pledged to work peacefully with other leaders to ensure Nyamira gets its long-awaited university.

Kebirigo Boys’ High School entertained the crowd with Christian and traditional songs during the ceremony.

Notably present among the principals and headteachers of Nyamira County was the Chief Principal of Kebirigo Boys’ High, Clement Nyang’acha.

His school was among those that topped the 2024 KCSE examinations and received various awards ranging from trophies to cash prizes.
