A school Principal and an education director have been suspended in Nyamira County over claims of facilitating KCSE exam malpractices at their work stations.

The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) suspended the Manga Sub county director of education and the Chief Principal of Nyambaria National School, who served as the examination overseer and Centre Manager, respectively.

A senior KNEC official revealed that the Chief Principal Charles Onyari was accused of facilitating examination irregularities at his examination center.

Following extensive consultations and guidance from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), it was deemed necessary to temporarily distance these two officials from the examination center while a thorough investigation takes place.

“The aim is to curb the prevalence of examination malpractice in the country and uphold the integrity of the exams,” he stated.

Questions regarding the permanency of their suspension were directed to the County Education office.

Efforts by Education News to reach Nyamira County’s director of education, Joshua Kaaga for comment were unsuccessful.

The Nyamira County KUPPET executive Secretary Lawrence Nyakweba stated that he had only heard rumors and would not comment until he had verified the facts.

“Iam not able to comment on this sensitive matter although I have heard rumors in the air but will tell you if I confirm,” he stated.

These allegations come at a crucial juncture, as the public eagerly awaits the outcome of the current examinations as Nyambaria High School in the 2022 KCSE exams sent all its candidates to university and was ranked as the best-performing school in the country.
