Kenyan nurses have every reason to smile after a consultancy firm began offering international nursing courses to secure employment in the United States. This development follows announcements by Australia, Canada, and the US of massive nursing job openings.

Kenyan Nurse Consultants Limited has partnered with St Elizabeth Medical and Technical College Mukumu in Kakamega County to register, test, and certify nurses aspiring to become United States Registered Nurses (USRN).

Justice Justus, the recruitment manager for Kenyan Nurse Consultants Limited, broke the news during an educational workshop at the Mukumu Nursing Training College. Addressing learners eager to work abroad, he outlined the enrollment process, required qualifications, and benefits of registering with their consultancy firm.

Justus explained that the firm collaborates with health, education, and training sector experts to test, approve, and certify nurses through specially crafted online exams, preparing them for the global job market.

“As Kenyan Nurse Consultants Limited, known as ‘The Future of Nursing Education,’ we are collaborating with a team of medical experts, including Professor Regina Callion, the founder of ReMar Review. Professor Callion developed a comprehensive six-month NCLEX V2 training course for nurses seeking to work abroad,” said Justus.

The training process involves four rigorous steps. First, nurses undergo NCLEX training for six months. Next, the Commission of Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) validates their academic transcripts, passports, and nursing licenses. Nurses then register with a US state of their choice, as the country has over 50 states seeking qualified medical personnel.

Justus emphasized that Kenyan Nurse Consultants Limited shortens the learning process compared to other bodies, which require nurses to have 2-3 years of experience in a 300-400 bed capacity facility before sitting for the NCLEX exam.

“We are self-sponsored and empower learners to move swiftly through critical steps like visa screening and processing. As consultants, we link local nurses with foreign job opportunities through customized learning programs. We also vet employing companies and review legal documents and contract terms to ensure they are compatible and favourable for our nurses,” he added.

He cautioned nurses against falling prey to fraudulent agencies that siphon money without delivering on promises to connect them to overseas job markets.

“If you want to work abroad and are willing to take the NCLEX exam, join Kenyan Nurse Consultants Limited. We are a bona fide professional firm dedicated to boosting the nursing profession’s working conditions,” he said.

Justus noted that many nurses struggle to pass the NCLEX exam, prompting ReMar Review to develop a simplified version tailored for Kenyan nurses. Over the past year, more than 1,000 nurses have joined the consultancy, some already employed abroad and others undergoing visa screening and testing.

He concluded that nursing is a global profession, and acquiring a US nursing license opens doors to countless opportunities abroad.

Pamela Musinzi, Deputy Principal of St Elizabeth Medical and Technical Training College Mukumu, hailed the upcoming partnership.

She highlighted its potential to raise the college’s international profile and boost Kenya’s economy through foreign exchange earned by nurses working overseas.

“Nursing is a noble profession. If taken seriously, one can soar high and wide globally. The Mukumu fraternity is happy to be part of this incredible journey. The sooner we sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the better for us as a college

We look forward to elevating this profession and restoring its lost glory,” said Musinzi.
