NTSA calls for school transport vigilance as August Holiday begins

As the August school holiday approaches, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has called for heightened vigilance in school transport operations across Kenya. The advisory, released Monday, urges all stakeholders to prioritize the safety of children during this high-risk transition period.

NTSA directed transport operators to adhere strictly to speed limits, carry out thorough vehicle checks, and ensure pickup and drop-off points are safe and clearly designated. “As schools begin to close, let’s prioritize children’s safety during school transport,” the Authority urged in its public notice.

In addition to transport operators, NTSA appealed to parents and guardians to be especially alert near busy roads and crossings. The agency emphasized that community-wide cooperation is key to preventing accidents and ensuring learners travel safely to their holiday destinations.

According to the Ministry of Education, second-term break begins on August 4 and ends August 22. Students are set to resume studies on August 25 for the final term of the academic year. The third term will be especially critical for candidates preparing for national examinations.

With increased traffic volumes expected around school zones, NTSA is urging communities to take shared responsibility. Enhanced awareness, proactive vehicle maintenance, and strict compliance with safety guidelines can significantly reduce the risk of road-related incidents.
