North Eastern Regional Commissioner James Kianda has warned that any form of exam mischief will not be condoned.
Reacting to an incident where an examination centre manager took a photo of an examination paper and sent it to a principal via WhatsApp, the commissioner warned that security agencies are on high alert to ensure the exam moves smoothly.
He said serious action will be taken against individuals caught engaging in exam malpractice. He was speaking at Garissa County Commissioner’s office where he oversaw the opening of the region’s KCSE container.
The centre manager and his entire team including security officers were immediately replaced. In addition, the suspects have recorded statements with the Garissa DCI and will be arraigned in court when investigations are over.
“Those hell bent on trying to cheat will be dealt with ruthlessly,’’ he said.
He said the exam belongs to all Kenyan students and their clean future is at stake.
‘’We can’t allow anybody to derail the students or mess with their lives,’’ he said.
Kianda said the very able investigative agencies were looking into claims of some students found with mobile phones in examination rooms. Recently education CS George Magoha pardoned two students found with mobile phones before the exams started in Nairobi.
About 10, 337 boys and 5,397 girls are sitting this year’s KCSE in 199 centres across the vast North-Eastern region. In addition, there are 764 boys and 406 girls sitting the exams in Dadaab refugee camp.
