North Eastern primary school team clinches National soccer title in historic Kakamega win

North Eastern representatives celebrate with the national trophy after clinching victory at the Kenya Primary Schools Soccer Championship finals in Kakamega.

In a rare display of raw talent, grit, and teamwork, the North Eastern Primary School Football Team has been crowned national champions.

In a moment of triumph that has captured the hearts of a region, the North Eastern Kenya primary school football representatives were crowned national champions after a resounding 3–0 win over Central Region in the finals of the Kenya Primary School Soccer Championships held at Musingu High School grounds in Kakamega over the weekend.

The win marks a historic moment for North Eastern Kenya, a region often left in the shadows of national sports headlines.

For the young boys of North Eastern, however, this historic victory is more than just a trophy—it’s a breakthrough, a bold declaration that talent thrives in every corner of this country.

The Ijara squad’s journey to the finals was nothing short of heroic.

Battling tough opponents, they remained focused and disciplined.

Parents, teachers, community leaders, and young fans celebrated the victory.

As players return home, they carry more than just medals and trophies but bring pride, unity, and a renewed sense of purpose to their region.

Ijara Primary’s narrative of underdog triumph was mirrored, in another dramatic vein, by Garissa High School, the official representative of North Eastern Kenya at the 2025 KSSSA Term Two National Football tournament in Kakamega.

In a lopsided clash against Agai Mixed Secondary School (Nyanza Region), Garissa National School was defeated 8–0 in their opening match.

In another Group A match, Musingu High School (Western Region) overwhelmed Garissa with a commanding 9–2 victory.

In their last match, they fell 4–1 to Moi High School Mbiruri in the group stages.
