Baringo Central Member of Parliament Joshua Kandie has asked secondary school principals to desist from chasing students home over school fees.
Kandie attributed the increased rate of school dropout and poor performance in the national examinations, especially students from poor families to skipping lessons.
“I am saying this because I am a living example of an ex-student from humble background who managed study through bursaries and scholarships” Kandie said.
He made the remarks while issuing some Sh25 million bursaries to benefit some 2,500 needy students from his constituency at Museum Grounds in Kabarnet town recently.
The kitty, he said also caters for 140 students in technical colleges and vocational training institutes.
The MP however appealed to school principals to consider retaining the children in school.
He said sending students home frequently will only destabilise their leavarage and result in poor performance.
Kandie further urged the beneficiaries of bursaries to utilize the opportunity and make their sponsors proud by posting good academic grades.
