No monkey business will be condoned during current teacher recruitment, education stakeholders warn TSC panelists

The replacement of 2,014 teachers who exited TSC’s payroll through natural attrition has begun in earnest in various sub-counties across the country.

Education stakeholders have come out to read a tough riot act to the TSC panellists, who might be visited by the devil and decide to engage in the monkey business of flouting recruitment guidelines in favour of particular applicants.

Speaking in Eldoret, Kapsabet, Chavakali, and Kericho, the interviewed stakeholders, which included Union officials and parent association representatives, warned the TSC against engaging in actions that could cast doubt on the ongoing teacher replacement exercise.

“We are aware of a sub-county in Nandi where their activities during replacement and recruitment are always opaque. This time around, we are keener,” said a parent lobby group member.

“The guidelines are in the public domain, and they stipulate explicitly that locals should be given priority in every replacement or recruitment drive. We expect nothing less from this,” said  Amusilibwa from Mbale in Vihiga county.

He went on to suggest that TSC officers at the sub-county level are sometimes compromised in their recruitment efforts, often selecting undeserving applicants over more deserving ones.

In Eldoret, applicants have come out to demand the last recruitment merit list.

“We know our ranks from last year’s recruitment. We, therefore, demand the same merit to check for any possible infiltration,” demanded one applicant from the Turbo Sub-county.

In response to the Education Committee’s inquiry about the January promotions that are shrouded in controversy, the TSC promised to regularly engage stakeholders in its activities, as enshrined in Article 10 of the constitution.

This, it says, will promote the spirit of transparency, which has always delayed services due to legal suits.
