The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Transmara branch executive secretary, Willy Korir, has dismissed rumours circulating on social media claiming that branch elections were held on January 25.

Speaking to teachers to Education News, Korir termed the reports as false, misleading and aimed at causing unnecessary confusion among educators and the general public

He clarified that no elections took place on Sunday contrary to what some individuals have been spreading online.

“I want to dismiss propaganda being peddled by some individuals on social media claiming that elections were held on January 25. That information is not true. The KNUT Transmara Branch elections will be held in February 25,” said Korir, who is defending his seat.

Korir expressed concern that the misinformation had caused confusion among teachers noting that such rumours could undermine trust and disrupt the smooth organization of union activities.

He urged members to rely on official communication from the union rather than unverified social media posts.

He further stated that the branch leadership is currently making adequate preparations for the polls in close consultation with labour officers to ensure the process complies with labour laws and union regulations.

According to Korir, proper planning is ongoing to guarantee that the elections are free, fair and transparent.

The executive secretary called on teachers to remain patient and prepared for the upcoming elections.

He emphasized the importance of unity and participation in the democratic process urging members to turn out in large numbers in the election day.

Korir also encouraged teachers to elect leaders of their choice who they trust and believe can effectively represent them.

“Teachers should ensure they elect leaders they love, leaders who can genuinely advocate for their rights and welfare,” he added.

He assured the members that KNUT Transmara Branch is committed to upholding democracy and protecting the interests of teachers through credible and well-organized elections.
