NITA offers sponsorship to needy students to pursue engineering courses

The National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) has announced sponsorship opportunities for female students who wish to undertake engineering courses. The opportunities are open to only 25 needy students across the country.

The authority invites applicants who are form four leavers from Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALS) to pursue the engineering courses at craft and diploma level. The applicants susceptible of getting the competitive opportunities are expected to come from the following marginalized areas: Mandera, Turkana, Lamu, Wajir, West Pokot, Kwale, Ijara, Tana River, Garissa, Isiolo, Marsabit, Samburu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Suba, Kajiado, Kilifi, Taita Taveta, Teso, Mt. Elgon, Kitui, Mwingi, Tharaka, Mbeera, Transamara, Makueni, Kuria and Baringo.

The training opportunities available for sponsorship are clustered in the following disciplines: Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Electrical/Electronics, Automotive, Surveying and Building/Civil Engineering.

The eligibility for diploma in any of the mentioned courses should have a minimum of C (Plain) in KCSE with at least C+ in Mathematics and C (Plain) in both Physics and English. For Craft courses, applicant should have attained a minimum of D+ (Plus) in KCSE with at least C – (Minus) in Mathematics and D+(Plus) in Physics and English.

Successful applicants will be sponsored to train in various Public Technical Training Institutions in the country as from May 2022.

The body that works towards advancing workforce for industrial development has been sponsoring the 25 Kenyan female students from needy backgrounds annually since the year 2006.

The sponsorships are aimed at reducing gender disparities in technical and engineering courses and are also part of its Corporate Social Investment.
