Ngara Girls’ High School dismisses social media claims on enrolment, student welfare

Ngara Girls’ High School in Nairobi has dismissed reports circulating on social media regarding alleged over-enrolment and concerns about student welfare, terming the claims misleading and taken out of context.

In a press release, the school’s Board of Management assured parents, guardians, and the public that all admissions are conducted strictly in accordance with Ministry of Education guidelines and within the institution’s approved capacity.

According to the statement, Ngara girls’ high school currently accommodates senior high school grade 10 students, form four, and forms three learners. The total student population stands at approximately 1,300 across all classes, a number the school says is well supported by existing infrastructure.

“The available classrooms, laboratories, and other learning facilities are structured to support the current population and the evolving demands of the Competency-Based Education,” the statement read.

The administration acknowledged that, like many schools transitioning to the new curriculum, Ngara Girls experienced initial implementation challenges.

However, it noted that these issues have since been addressed through proper alignment and accommodation measures to ensure uninterrupted learning.

The school further disclosed that phased infrastructure expansion is ongoing. This includes the construction and upgrading of dormitories, laboratories, library facilities and the kitchen, aimed at sustainably supporting students while maintaining safety and learning standards. Teaching activities, including practical and laboratory lessons, are continuing as scheduled.

On student welfare, the school emphasized that learners receive balanced meals, with special dietary needs taken into consideration.

It also assured parents that students have access to appropriate communication and support channels whenever required.

The school further expressed concern that the online allegations risk causing unnecessary anxiety among parents and students.

The administration reaffirmed its commitment—together with the Board of Management, Parents’ Association, and Alumnae Association—to safeguarding the safety, wellbeing, and academic success of every learner.

Reiterating its motto, “Honour and Effort,” the school pledged continued transparency, accountability, and delivery of quality education.

The members of the public were encouraged to channel any concerns directly to the school administration through official channels for prompt and constructive engagement.
