Over 10,000 students will benefit from a bursary kitty courtesy of the Rarieda Constituency National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).
Otiende Amollo, the area Member of Parliament said the beneficiaries will get Sh15.6 million during the current financial year.
Speaking at Rachar Secondary School in West Uyoma, the legislator said the number of beneficiaries have been growing from 4,200 in 2017 to the current over 10,000.
Otiende assured Rarieda Constituency residents that the CDF committee will ensure fairness in the disbursement, adding that no needy student will be left out.
Otiende however warned officials responsible for the bursary kitty and headteachers against fraudulent deals and urged anybody who would be approached for kickbacks by the officials to report such cases to the police or directly to him.
The MP also castigated a section of the principals who have been politicizing the bursary issue by peddling lies that the monies had been misappropriated by his office.
“A section of the principals have purposed to speak lies on their WhatsApp groups and I know them since I am also in the groups in my own special way. The truth is that all the over 40 secondary schools and primary schools have benefited in one way or the other from the NG-CDF funds and the public can attest to the fact. So be careful about politicizing the education agenda of our development,” he told the principals.
He noted that the national government still owes the constituency over Sh46 million in this financial year out of Sh137 million it ought to have received.
“My strategy is that schools must be assisted based on priority needs. You cannot request for a school bus yet you do not even have a library or even a classroom. Principals and their Board of Managements must sit and identity key projects that must happen first in the best interest of the learners,” he continued.
