NG-CDF awards 5,000 students with bursaries

Sirisia Constituency NG-CDF on Monday awarded 5,000 bright but needy students with bursaries so that they may stay and continue with learning in school.

While addressing the media after the bursary disbursement exercise, area MP John Waluke said that every student applicant received Ksk.7, 000.

However, Waluke called on the schools to prudently use the money to benefit students adding that those who did not see their names on the list will be scheduled to benefit in the second disbursement.

To attain 100 percent transition, Waluke called on parents, education stakeholders and school heads to ensure that all students who sat KCPE exams have reported for form one.

“My NG-CDF team is on the right path to ensure that the government’s 100 percent transition is achieved,” Waluke noted.

The third term MP lauded former Governor, Wycliffe Wangamati, for coming up with a scholarship idea saying that it has helped students from humble backgrounds get education.

“Let us maintain this scholarship kitty so that it can continue helping and supporting us, in future Bungoma will have all kinds of professionals courtesy of the scholarship,” he said.

However, Waluke called on the county scholarship teams to work with all the NG-CDF and post lists of beneficiaries to the public in order avoid duplication.

The MP faulted his constituency Members of County Assembly (MCA’s) for associating schools with politics citing the recent fire incident at Namwela Friends’ Secondary School where they alleged that it was planned by people with bad intention.

“We should discharge our roles as stipulated in the constitution, MCA’s should focus on bettering ECDE education and TVETS as I work on improving education in both primary and secondary schools,” Waluke noted.

Waluke cautioned the MCAs who want some principals transferred with an intention of winning tenders in schools.

On LBQGT, Waluke asked students to be careful while in school saying that those found associating with the illegal movements should report a stern action taken against them.

“This LBQGT thing has attracted both local and international conversation, in the parliament we rejected it, let us all be good advocates and maintain the Christian life,” he said.
