An umbrella body that will bring together all teacher associations, organizations and stakeholders in the education sector was yesterday, June 17, formed and registered by the Registrar of Societies.
According to the National Secretary of the newly formed Education Stakeholders Association of Kenya, (ESAK), Ndung’u Wangenye, the umbrella body has so far attracted over 12 corporate members, adding that the federation is strictly corporate with no direct membership.
“The main reason we formed this body is bring together all organization and associations within the education sector so as to speak in one voice in promotion of education standards of this country,” Wangenye told Education News.

“Previously there has been duplication of activities and overlapping of interests but with the formation of this body we can now all swim in one direction and support the government in order to make education even better,” he added.
Wangenye, also double ups as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Umbrella body and the National Secretary of Kenya Teachers in Hardship and Arid Areas Welfare Association (KETHAWA).
“The good thing is that we have roots across the country and this comes in handy to making the body even stronger for the benefit of all Kenyans. So far, over15 organizations in education sectors have expressed willingness to join the federation through formal applications which is still under consideration,” said Wangenye.

Other organizations that are members of this umbrella body include Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA), Kenya Women Teachers Association (KEWOTA), and Retired and about to Retire Teachers Association (REAR), Elimisha Mwananchi Initiative an NGO in education sector, Kenya Eyes Teachers are among others.
