The newly established Murang’a Technical Training Institute has opened its doors to students interested in acquiring technical and transferable skills for application in the workplace.

The first batch of 300 students was admitted in February this year.

The institution is located about 2.5 kilometres North West of Maragua Township, in a serene rural environment suitable for learning.

It is accredited by Technical and Vocational Education and Training Act (TVETA)   which regulates tertiary institutions.

The institution offers programmes authorized by relevant government bodies charged to monitor their trainings and which are examined by NITA, KNEC and CBET.

The institute has a current capacity to enroll over 2,000 students to undertake various technical and business programmes.

The institute’s principal Robin Wachira explains that the management of the school is aware of the youth unemployment crisis and has set up a vision to ensure trainees are instilled with entrepreneurial mindsets and attitudes that will enable them to be job creators.

The institution’s core mandate is to provide technical, vocational training with entrepreneurial skills for self-reliable and development.

‘The college intends to have a nitch as a producer of skilled entrepreneurs in various fields of study. These graduands will be well prepared to create jobs instead of looking for employment, ’Wachira said.

In line with their vision, enterprise education is mainstreamed as a key unit in all courses offered at this new institute.

Wachira revealed that the college plans to be a market leader in training mechanical production and engineering programmes using the latest and emerging technologies in the fields.

‘We are  establishing infrastructures, facilities and technologies which will make it a Centre of excellence in mechanical and automotive production training in the country,’ he revealed.

The principal thanked the national government for supplying state of the art training facilities and machineries with the latest digital technologies and posting highly experienced members of staff to the institution.

The institute’s BOG is chaired by Professor Peter Kagwanja. Some of the BOG members are Professor Paul Mbatia and engineer Lawrence Mwangi among others.

Some of the courses offered include building technology, plumbing, electrical and electronic engineering, institutional management, beverage food production, catering and accommodation, procurement and supply chain and business management courses. These are offered at craft, certificate   and diploma levels.

The institute  has registered  with  KUCCPS   and  HELB  , an initiative that has created room  for students  to get admitted  and access government loans easily.
