As the country ushers out the 8-4-4 system and mainstreams CBC, these are the learning areas clusters for Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) announced by the Ministry of Education.
In languages, the learning areas are English, Kiswahili/KSL (for deaf learners), Life Skills Education, Physical Education and Sports, Foreign Language/Indigenous, Social studies/Citizenship, Geography and History and Virtual Arts/Performing arts.
The next category which is Mathematics entails the following learning areas: Mathematics, Integrated Science, Life Skills Education, Physical Education and Sports, Virtual Arts, Business Studies/Computer Studies and Pre-technical studies.
Additionally, Science category has Mathematics, Integrated Science, Health Education, Life Skills Education, Physical Education and Sports, Pre-technical Studies and Business Studies/Agriculture/Home Science/Computer Studies.
The Technical category entails Mathematics, Integrated Science, Health Education, Life Skills Education, Physical Education and Sports, Pre-Technical Studies and Business Studies/Agriculture/Home Science/Computer Studies.
The last category is Humanities offering the following learning areas: Social Studies (Citizenship, Geography and History), English/Kiswahili/KSL, Religious Education (CRE/IRE/HRE), Healthy Education, Life Skills Education, Physical Education and Sports, Indigenous Language and Visual Arts/Performing Arts.
