New KESSHA Chair aware of gigantic task ahead as he assumes office

Willie Kuria, new KESSHA chairman. From his acceptance speech, he is aware of the challenges ahead, including the thorny issue of delayed capitation.

The Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) elections to pick a new leadership was the first order of business as the KESSHA conference kicked off in Mombasa Monday, the highlight being Willie Kuria’s confirmation as the substantive Chair, having acted since Kahi Indimuli retired.

In his acceptance speech, he expressed his gratitude to everyone present for giving him the opportunity to serve as the new chairman, vowing to tackle the challenges they face as heads of secondary schools.

Additionally, he recognized his predecessors for their contributions in leading the association. Amos Cherono, the former Treasurer who served for two terms, attended the conference.

He identified the release of funds to schools as the biggest challenge, noting that many schools have taken loans to maintain smooth operations. He promised to prioritize the matter in his engagements with the Ministry of Education (MoE) to find a lasting solution.

He highlighted another challenge related to promotions, pointing out that the Teacher Service Commission (TSC) was slow in granting well-deserved promotions. He promised to address this issue during his tenure as chairman.

Furthermore, he noted that KESSHA faced numerous challenges in the past but had addressed them together as a team. He expressed hope that this tradition will continue as he and his new team work to lead into a promising future.

Other leaders who were voted in include Albert Masiolo (Assistant Organizing Secretary), Florence Ngarari (National Organising Secretary), Abdi Noor Haji (National Secretary), And Joyce Omondi (National Treasurer).
