Butula Boys High School, one of Kenya’s top national schools, has ushered in a new era of leadership following the appointment of Josephat Otsieno as the new Chief Principal.

The veteran educationist takes over from Dr Dan Ouma, who recently retired after years of distinguished service to the institution.

Mr Otsieno brings a wealth of experience from various schools across Kenya. He began his leadership journey at Nambale Urban Secondary School before moving on to head Lugulu Mixed Secondary School. His most recent posting was at Chebwagan High School in Kericho County, where he is credited with steering the school to academic prominence and significantly improving co-curricular participation.

His track record in academic leadership has earned him national recognition, with stakeholders praising his hands-on approach, strategic planning, and emphasis on discipline and performance. His appointment to Butula Boys High School has been widely welcomed by teachers, parents, alumni, and education officials.

Speaking during the official handover ceremony, Otsieno said he was honoured to take up the role and committed to building on the strong foundation laid by his predecessor.

“Butula Boys has a proud legacy of academic excellence, and I am committed to upholding and advancing that legacy,” he said. “Together with staff, students, and parents, we will strive for even greater success.”

Dr Ouma was hailed for his exemplary leadership, under which the school consistently ranked among the top performers nationally. Under his stewardship, Butula Boys expanded its facilities, improved its academic results, and strengthened its position as a national centre of excellence.

Located in Busia County, Butula Boys High School has earned a reputation for academic rigour and holistic student development. The transition in leadership is expected to inject fresh energy into the institution as it continues to compete among Kenya’s best.

With Mr. Otsieno at the helm, the school community is optimistic about the future and confident that Butula will maintain—and possibly exceed—its tradition of academic distinction.
