36,505 teachers to attend promotion interviews tomorrow

TSC Chairman Jamleck Muturi. The Commission will interview for promotion to new grades over 36,000 teachers tomorrow.

36,505 teachers will be interviewed in different counties across the country starting tomorrow.

The exercise will end in January 16, 2023, mainly for secondary school educators at grades C3 to D.

Those attending the interviews include teachers seeking promotion to Deputy Principal III at T-Scale 11. The commission targets to fill 1014 positions.

Also to be filled are 1,137 Senior Master III positions at T-Scale 10, together with 216 Senior Lecturer IV positions at Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) across the country.

The cadres are placed at T-Scale 9.

Still on the same grade, TSC seeks to fill 12,576 for regular secondary school teachers.

The interviews will also seek to fill 1,918 slots for Secondary Teacher I at T-Scale 8.

The Commission will finalize the third phase of the interviews from February 4-16 this year, targeting post-primary administrators at T-Scale D2-D5.

Under TSC guidelines issued towards the end of last year, the interviews for this category of teachers will be done at the various regional headquarters across the country.

The positions to be filled include 34 slots for Chief Principal (T-Scale 15) and 104 for Senior Principal (T-Scale 14). Others are 541 slots for Principal at T-Scale 13 and 528 for Deputy Principal at T-Scale 12.

Also, 72 positions for Senior Lecturer I, T-Scale 12, will be up for grabs.

The commission sent out invitation letters for interviews as from October 30 last year.

According to the TSC, over 150,000 teachers applied to be considered for promotion.

The TSC completed promotional interviews for 11,519 primary school teachers last month.

Speaking to the Kenya Primary Schools Heads Association (KEPSHA) in Mombasa last month, TSC CEO Dr Nancy Macharia made a passionate appeal to short- listed teachers to attend the interviews and allow the Commission to fill the identified positions.

She revealed that many teachers were uncharacteristically shunning interviews due to stringent requirements for the interviews. Now the tough rules have been relaxed to open doors for more applicants.
