It was a day like any other for Esther Katile Mutisya and her son Nathan when they started their journey from Syokimau in Machakos to Makueni boys high school for admission without school fees.
Esther had applied for all scholarships but was not considered for any .
She only had money for school uniforms and believed that after leaving the son in school, she would hustle for the school fees.
“My son kept on crying asking if he will miss admission to the school. I told him that we should trust in God. In fact I had only bought a metal box and few essential things,” she added.
By Sunday evening, Esther had only Kshs 9,000 for uniforms, which was barely enough.
“A good Samaritan sent me Kshs 3500 on my way to Makueni. When we got to the school, I talked to teachers and as I was waiting for their decision, I was told my son’s term one school fees had been cleared. I shed tears as I thanked my God,” added a single mother of three.
Esther added that one might think parents had all the time to look for fee but with the tough economy and struggling to put food on the table with three kids to cater for it’s not a joke.
Nathan Mutisya thanked the sponsor adding that he will put more efforts into his studies in order to become a neurosurgeon. He also appealed to well-wishers to continue paying for his fees.
“I don’t like seeing my mother struggle all the time but there is no option. I want to better my family’s life by putting more efforts in class and trusting in God to actualize my dreams. After what we witnessed today,I know there is a God of miracles,” he added amid smiles.
Makueni deputy principal Albert Musyimi said Nathan’s sponsor had wanted to sponsor a student from Taita Taveta who got another sponsor
“We called him and explained that there is a student who had reported to school with almost nothing. He then paid for term one fee. We hope that the boy will get more well-wishers,” said Musyimi.
