The Kisumu County Government has awarded a form one student a four year scholarship following a superb poem she presented at the Kit Mikayi cultural festival.
Kisumu governor Professor Peter Anyang Nyong’o, who was a guest at the event, was moved by the poem recited by Sheldon Akinyi, a student at Lwak Girls High school. The governor said the scholarship will be provided by the Kisumu County Education Trust.
Akinyi recited a poem entitled The journey since 2017 which talks about the governor’s track record since he assumed office in 2017.
The 16 year old who resides at Kibuye estate in Kisumu says her aspiration is to become a professional thespian in future.
“My source of inspiration has been award winning actor Lupita Nyong’o” Akinyi said in Kisumu.
Akinyi’s poem was directed by the manager of Mama Grace Onyango Social centre Mr Akech Obat.
