National Government Urged to Set Aside Infrastructure Development Fund

By Lydia Ngoolo

The patron Kibwezi Empowerment Foundation Mwengi Mutuse has called upon the government to set aside infrastructure development funds to create favorable basic education for school children.

Speaking during the launch of classrooms he sponsored for renovation and construction in Yimwaa, Kalii, Kai and Ikungu primary schools, he observed that many institutions were started in 1950s and were now worn out.

“See, even the roofs are not appealing to the eyes in many schools. They are rusty, weather beaten and some are even detached from the rafters. Some walls have been repaired severally but they keep on cracking. There is need for infrastructure upgrade in all schools,” said Mr. Mutuse who is also a lawyer by profession.

Mutuse who is aspiring for Kibwezi West parliamentary seat and currently working as Machakos County Chief of Staff said the government through budget for free primary education should consider infrastructure development beyond Constituency Development fund (CDF).

He emphasized that if engineers were asked to look at those schools, a number of them might have ended up being closed. He called for creation of suitable environment for learners as it contributes a lot in their performance.

The aspirant encouraged children to study hard since the provisions of those requirements in schools were being done for their sake, adding that the children can only repay by performing well and prospering in life.

Kibwezi branch Kenya Nationa Union of Teachers (KNUT) secretary general Gabriel Kisilu noted that Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) needs space and teachers will rally behind leaders with visions to support education.
